Who is Marina?
MARINA and formerly by the stage name Marina and the Diamonds, is a Welsh singer-songwriter celebrated for her distinctive "indie-pop" sound and sharp, introspective lyrics. Rising to prominence in 2010 with her debut album The Family Jewels, she quickly became known for a style that blended theatrical vocals with retro aesthetics. Her former stage name was a play on her Greek surname, Diamandis, meaning "diamonds," which she clarified was a reference to her fans rather than a backing band. Throughout her career, she has navigated various musical "eras," from the synth-heavy concept album Electra Heart (2012) to the more self-produced and organic Froot (2015), consistently exploring themes of identity, social critiques, and feminine empowerment.
