Who are the smiths?
Morrissey (Vocals): The "frontman" who famously dropped his first name (Steven Patrick) to just go by Morrissey. He was the group's lyricist, known for his witty, literate, and often melancholy outlook on life.
Johnny Marr (Guitar): The band's musical architect who changed his name from John Maher to avoid confusion with the drummer of the Buzzcocks. He was responsible for the band's signature "jangly" guitar style and handled the composing, arranging, and—eventually—much of the management duties.
Andy Rourke (Bass): Marr's childhood friend who joined early on to provide the band's melodic and fluid bass lines. Wikipedia notes that Rourke remained a key part of their sound until the end, despite a brief firing in 1986 due to personal struggles; he sadly passed away in 2023.
Mike Joyce (Drums): The backbone of the group who came from a punk background. While he provided the steady, driving beat for their hits, he later became known for a high-profile lawsuit against Morrissey and Marr over unpaid royalties after the band split.
